Rima Mickus is a licensed clinical professional counselor in independent private practice since 2013. She approaches therapy from a collaborative and compassionate perspective. Rima helps clients see their strengths and abilities, and helps them navigate through their painful experiences. She assists clients in exploring any maladaptive patterns that may be keeping them stuck, and empowers them in learning new strategies for coping and overcoming obstacles. Rima is trained in evidence based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and utilizes relational and insight-oriented approaches to promote insight into how your history influences recurrent maladaptive patterns of behavior which keep you from experiencing a fuller life.

Rima's experience with counseling includes an internship at Family Counseling Service, where she provided individual, couples, and family therapy and facilitated court-ordered domestic violence therapy groups. After completing her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, she worked as a staff therapist for Breaking Free, a substance abuse agency, working with adolescents and adults with alcohol and drug addictions. She also worked for several years as a mental health counselor in a hospital in the western suburbs of Chicago. Prior to working as a mental health counselor, Rima worked for 12 years as a Systems Engineer for a large telecommunications corporation.
Rima stays up to date on the latest research on causes and treatments for depression and anxiety, and utilizes an integrative approach to treatment. She holds a certificate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), and is one of a few clinicians in the Chicagoland area who have this training. She also is focused on training and education in the latest couples therapy approaches.
Rima is the parent of three grown children and enjoys reading, theatre, traveling, hiking and skiing.
